Unlike an EMOM where rest is built-in, an AMRAP requires you to pace yourself. Go out too hot in the first two minutes, and you will crash spectacularly by minute five.
Pacing Strategy
To dominate your next AMRAP, remember these three rules:
- Find the 80% pace: Settle into a rhythm that feels uncomfortably sustainable.
- Manage transitions: Don't rest between movements. Take your breath while setting up the next piece of equipment.
- Sprint the finish: When the timer hits the final 60 seconds, empty the tank.
A reliable AMRAP timer is your best partner on the floor. It tracks the macro time while you focus on the micro movements.
